Would I read this letter if someone else wrote it?

Friday, March 27th, 2009

PublishaLetter. com recently answered this question in WikiAnswers

Q: Why is a friendly letter different than a letter to an editor

A: A letter to the editor, even though addressed to the editor, is an open letter to the world. It can be friendly in the sense that, it supports the editorial view point. The editors also welcome letters arguing against their positions.
A friendly letter that is personal in nature has no place in the letter to the editor column. One good way for the writer of a friendly letter to determine if it belongs to the letter to the editor category is to honestly answer this question - Would I read this letter if someone else wrote it?

AIG & IPL - what do they have in common?

Monday, March 23rd, 2009

Judging by the letters that come pouring into PublishaLetter -Passion, Anger, Frustration, that’s what they have in common.

If AIG is a story of greed and managerial inaptitude, IPL is a story of “this is not Cricket”. The letters show, public’s deep distrust of the politicians and the anger and the frustration in dealing with the situations. AIG is about economy, business and  jobs - happening in the US. IPL is about cricket, fans and security - taking place (or not taking place) in India, almost ten thousand miles away. Yet people’s reactions are quite similar!

AIG is Brilliant - for sheer Drama

Wednesday, March 18th, 2009

AIG. For sheer drama nothing can top them. Just when you think, you have seen it all and heard it all, come new revelations. Even more dramatic than before. In the meanwhile the rage of the public is palpable. The scathing letters, which initially targeted the AIG executives are now questioning the politicians who allowed it all to happen under their watch. Frank, Schumar and Dodd. Especially Dodd. Here is a typical letter that came to our site:

Amid the fuss over AIG bonuses is lost that Barney Frank, Chuck Schumer and others accept NO responsibility for their insistence on loans to non-credit-worthy mortgage applicants. Their current hysteria over less than 1% of the billions in bailouts is hypocritical. They are the persons who should be resigning in disgrace.  And whatever happened to the ethics investigation of Chris Dodd over his sweetheart loan from Countrywide Mortgage?  Swept under the rug!

Sunshine Week

Sunday, March 15th, 2009

March 15-21 is Sunshine Week. What is Sunshine Week? Sunshine Week (as described in their website) is a national initiative to open a dialogue about the importance of open government and freedom of information. Participants include print, broadcast and online news media, civic groups, libraries, non-profits, schools and others interested in the public’s right to know. Sunshine Week is a non-partisan initiative whose supporters are conservative, liberal and everything in between. Sunshine week is led by American Society of Newspaper Editors.

Sunshine Week and PublishaLetter.com joined together in 2008 to give people a unique opportunity to write letters about open government issues. This is not a typical Letter to the Editor, but instead is an online forum for ideas on how governments can be more transparent to its citizens. Letters can be submitted through links in the home page of PublishaLetter.com or from Sunshine Week Blog.
