Mumbai terror attacks - 26/11 anniversary

Saturday, November 28th, 2009

November 26 was the one year anniversary of the Mumbai Terror attacks that killed so many people and damaged so many landmarks in Mumbai. Naturally, there were several letters from India on the subject. One even wrote a poem.

Here are some of the things they said.

How short (is) the memory of people ….We most have even forgotten the names of defense personnel who laid their lives that day ! And not to ignore that every one of them was equally committed and carrying out one’s duties towards the nation selflessly…

A young writer wrote:  Why we light candles for those soldiers who fought in terrorism, is it only for showing pity to them? Government promised that they will help their families who give their lives in terrorist attack on 26/11/08. But did they fulfill their promises? Instead of lighting candles or saluting them, we should help their families who gave their life to save us. Who is responsible for this attack? Pakistan, ISI, Headley,Rana,Kasab? I think we are the one who are responsible. We are fighting with each other. We should live in peace and united, then only we can raise the voice against TERRORISM. “

On the Rs 31 crore to keep Kasab alive a letter said:  Was (media) waiting for this day to remind the Taxpayer about the 31 crores?,,,,were they too caught up with covering events like Shilpa Shettys marriage that their journalists didn’t have time to dig deep into the details?

And a Poem:

Two brothers born a day apart,
Two brothers who were forced to part.
But what if they were united,
What if they never again could be divided.
Blood, violence and anger, the languages they speak,
not realizing it is this that makes them weak…….

Health Care Reform - the Battle goes on

Tuesday, November 10th, 2009

The passage of the Health Care bill in the House did not douse the passion of the letter writers on various sides of the issues. Rather it inflamed it.

Here are some excerpts:

On Senator Lieberman. Sen. Lieberman’s “conscience” is a wholly owned subsidiary of the insurance industry.  Therefore, disregard anything he says about health care insurance.

Political Theatre H.R. 3692. There are moments in your formative years that seem to stand out- a first kiss, graduation…..Saturday night vote on H.R. 3692, Affordable Healthcare for America Act, didn’t fail to excite. You may have wept out of adulation, or even disappointment, but neither is of importance. Saturday’s vote in the House was Political theatre at its very best, and America watched.

Health care solution is so simple! Give ALL Americans the same coverage you, The Congress and President  will have.  Nothing more, nothing less.

Obama - One year later. Obama won by promising change. Obama lost yesterday–by not delivering it. When will he lead on health care–rather than sitting back? You wanted the job–so do the arm twisting to get it done.

Don’t look down on Canadian Health System (rather look up). We in Canada realized a long time ago that Americans know very little about Canada (check Jeopardy some time), and it’s obvious that many of your politicians know absolutely nothing about us and, worse, don’t think they need to. The inaccuracies are mind-blowing, and most of the statements are outright lies………. Good luck, all you disenfranchised, medically ignored Americans. I’m a pensioner, and doing very well in Canada, thank you. It has its problems, but what doesn’t. At least the system looks after me

INTERESTING viewpoints indeed!
