Torture is UnAmerican
Letters are pouring in on Torture. Were some of the Military and CIA interrogations torture? Were they necessary? Were they effective? While no one questions that the interrogations are necessary and that they are not friendly chats, there is real division on the legality of the methods that were used and how they were carried out.
One letter - Torture is UnAmerican stood out. Here are some excerpts.
To argue that terrorist threats to our way of life is sufficient reason to violate values and laws is unfounded.
……Torture is historically Un American, against our values, against U.S. and International Law and against fundamental Judeo Christian ethics…..For the sake of our history and future as a “Shining City on the Hill,” a clear statement must be made that this should not have happened, and will never happen again. Those proven to have violated the law must be brought to justice.
