Health Care Rants and Raves from the Left

Sunday, April 4th, 2010

Health Care reform generated as much passion from the Left as the Right. Since its passage there have been several letters complaining about the hypocrisy of the GOP arguments. Here are some excerpts.

I don’t understand the hypocrisy of Congressmen Conaway and “baby killer” Naugebauer in the way they talk about the health care bill just passed, they voted against it and of course one of the provisions was to do away with “pre-exiting conditions” and they talk about repealing it, I guess they like for their constituents to still have insurance coverage cancelled because of pre-existing conditions,

Another letter said:  It is true that a single-payer system could have covered everyone and greatly reduced the cost overall,by eliminating the middleman, but that wasn’t politically possible in a country where so many voters are so uninformed on the matter that they are easily led to vote against their own interest by demagogues.   The problem now is to educate these voters as to what is in the law and dispel the misrepresentations spread by front groups for the insurance companies.

Someone who works with the homeless people wrote:  For 10 years I have been volunteering for a local charity, and I have had to watch people die needlessly because they could not afford health care.  I work with the disabled homeless, people who cannot pay rent because they cannot work….They could only go to the Emergency Room, so, by the time they were diagnosed, it was always terminal. …I pray that no one will try to take their lives away from them, ever again, by repealing this law.

The arguments are not over. We are sure we will continue to hear from the right and the left

Health Care Rants and Raves from the Right

Monday, March 22nd, 2010

Nothing inspired as much passion from the writers as the Health Care debate. While many letters were thoughtful and well articulated with facts and figures, many were just rants and raves. Especially, many of the right leaning letters seemed to be Fox News talking points stitched together as original thoughts.

Some samples:

Massachusetts’ voters gave our politicians a  message; we do not want increases in taxes, we want our federal deficit reduced, not increased and we do not support National Health Care…..The people of Massachusetts have been betrayed!

A letter titled Fast Track to Insolvency said: Well they did it. I knew they could not help themselves. With a seemly unlimited line of credit of other people?s money how could they not help going on a shopping spree.….. they identified the wrong crises.  Therefore, our situation has become a little like the gambler who “doubles downs” after big loses, hoping luck or divine providence will change their financial situation on the next hand.

Another writer, who apparently can not bring himself to spell Obama correctly said:President Ubama and the Democrat congress passed a health care bill that included some very good points. But it is loaded with ridiculous items.
If the voters watched the Congresswoman Slaughter Rules Committee  On CNN . They would demand a recall on the Whole democrat congress
.

Next time we will highlight some left leaning letters.

Health Care Reform - the Battle goes on

Tuesday, November 10th, 2009

The passage of the Health Care bill in the House did not douse the passion of the letter writers on various sides of the issues. Rather it inflamed it.

Here are some excerpts:

On Senator Lieberman. Sen. Lieberman’s “conscience” is a wholly owned subsidiary of the insurance industry.  Therefore, disregard anything he says about health care insurance.

Political Theatre H.R. 3692. There are moments in your formative years that seem to stand out- a first kiss, graduation…..Saturday night vote on H.R. 3692, Affordable Healthcare for America Act, didn’t fail to excite. You may have wept out of adulation, or even disappointment, but neither is of importance. Saturday’s vote in the House was Political theatre at its very best, and America watched.

Health care solution is so simple! Give ALL Americans the same coverage you, The Congress and President  will have.  Nothing more, nothing less.

Obama - One year later. Obama won by promising change. Obama lost yesterday–by not delivering it. When will he lead on health care–rather than sitting back? You wanted the job–so do the arm twisting to get it done.

Don’t look down on Canadian Health System (rather look up). We in Canada realized a long time ago that Americans know very little about Canada (check Jeopardy some time), and it’s obvious that many of your politicians know absolutely nothing about us and, worse, don’t think they need to. The inaccuracies are mind-blowing, and most of the statements are outright lies………. Good luck, all you disenfranchised, medically ignored Americans. I’m a pensioner, and doing very well in Canada, thank you. It has its problems, but what doesn’t. At least the system looks after me

INTERESTING viewpoints indeed!

Health Care, Health Care and more Health Care

Wednesday, August 12th, 2009

If one thing has riled up the letter writers to the editors, it is the debate about Health Care Reform in the US. No surprise there. The wide ranging viewpoints are somewhat of a surprise though. Here are some of the recent examples.

The letter titled Debunking Health Care Myths is a strong rebuttal of the common Republican Talking Points. Point by point it takes on the five major complaints against the plan by the right.

I want and deserve information states that the writer wants health care reform and NOT insurance reform.

Inside Health Care says that what you don’t know about health care can kill you.

White People & Town halls asks the question - Why is it mostly the white people that are disrupting the Town Hall meetings?

Obamacare - Life or Death is skeptical. It asks - When your life hangs in the balance and you need the best health care will that government official help you?

National Health Service - This writer from UK is sad to read reports about US peoples’ views of the health service in UK. He urges to counteract the lies that appear to be circulating in USA about our (UK’s)  service.

Health care Fraud argues that before opening the faucets to pour money into the health care system, they need to take care of all the monies going down the drain in fraud

These and other letters make interesting reading no matter how you feel about the subject. Visit the site and read the letters under Health Care.

Health Care Debate - the writers’ views

Sunday, July 19th, 2009

Health care is, as expected, top of the mind for many letter writers. And their viewpoints could not be more divergent. They range from liberal media giving a “free ride” to Obama to the Congress not having the “guts” to stand up to the special interest groups.

Here are excerpts from two letters:

The first one: Obama is getting a boost from the mainstream media in order to fool the American public about his health care plan……… Why can’t the liberal media be truthful?  Could it be that the truth does not coincide with their agenda?

The second one: So while Congress, with its obligations to the industry which insures its members with luxury policies and keeps them in office with corporate contributions and campaign support, betrays the American people with distractions like threats of rationing, business continues as usual here in the hinterland.
Are there no courageous Congresspeople who are willing to take the risk of representing the will of the American people for a change?
