The IPL circus and Shashi Tharoor
Monday, April 19th, 2010Shashi Tharoor is like Krishna and the IPL is a circus. So claimed some of the letters covering the controversy surrounding the inclusion of Kochi team in IPL and the involvement of IPL honcho Modi, and soon-to-divorced ex-minister, Tharoor and his companion Sunanda, the Kashmiri beautician.
A letter asked is he (Tharoor) now going to marry Sunanda, a Kashmiri girl, a trained beautician? Sunanda would be Shashi Tharoor’s third wife. Will Tharoor stop with this or prefer to enact a Krishna than Rama?
Another letter said that the country expected more from Tharoor. Of late much time is wasted on talks on Mr Shashi Tharoor and the controversies resulting from his talks and tweets.Mr Tharoor is an exceptionally brilliant intellectual with a very wide exposure to the global socio-political environment. The nation would benefit much if the people of this nation encourages him to utilise his talents. He too has a great responsibility to his country, first as an elected representative and then as a minister. The nation expects much more from him than his counterparts in the Union Cabinet given his capabilities.
IPL is a circus claimed this letter. We,Indians have always been suckers for Entertainment whether it is CINEMA or CRICKET.Casting aside all their worries, work and Logic people go in droves to watch this TAMASHA of T-20 cricket wasting time and money over a game that is more of a CIRCUS with Clowns(owners of various teams competing in IPL).
Imagine a staggering 703 Million USD thrown in for 2 teams of Pune & Kochi to be introduced next year would propel this mega event in the category almost at par with the NBA of the US of A.Practically every TOM DICK & HARRY in the Corporate/Bollywood wants a Share of this PIE or lets call it a GOOSE that lays GOLDEN EGGS.
Tharoor doesn’t deserve to be blamed said another letter. The letter continued….a person of high professional intelligence, integrity and excellence like Shashi Tharoor, if punished then the govt. should be questioned as to what action it has initiated against Lalit Modi, Commissioner of IPL for being party to this controversy.
